Metallurgical silicon carbide, also known as metal silicon carbide, is a compound obtained by the reaction of silicon powder and carbon source at high temperature, commonly used in the metallurgical industry in the preparation of refractory materials and refractory alloys. There are two main types:
Reactive sintering method: the silicon powder and carbon source is mixed in a certain proportion, after pressing forming, into a high temperature furnace for sintering reaction. The reaction temperature is usually above 2000℃, and the product is a metallurgical silicon carbide lump. The metallurgical sic produced by this method has the advantages of high hardness, abrasion resistance and high temperature resistance, and is suitable for the preparation of refractory materials and refractory alloys in metallurgical industry.
Melting method: the silicon powder and carbon source mixed, in the electric furnace for high temperature melting, after cooling to get metallurgical silicon carbide blocks. The metallurgical sic produced by this method has the advantages of high purity, high hardness and good uniformity, and is suitable for the preparation of refractory materials and refractory alloys in metallurgical industry.
