DESCRIPTION
In steelmaking, SiC is used as a refractory lining in the production of iron and steel. It is used to line the blast furnace and other high-temperature equipment, such as ladles and tundishes, to protect against the harsh conditions of the molten metal. SiC is also used in the production of ceramic and glass products, as it can withstand high temperatures and resist chemical attack from the materials being processed.
Other refractory applications for Silicon Carbide include kiln furniture, crucibles, and other high-temperature components used in the production of ceramics and other refractory materials. SiC is also used in the aerospace industry for thermal protection systems, such as heat shields for spacecraft.
