DESCRIPTION
Silicon carbide, exceedingly hard, synthetically produced crystalline compound of silicon and carbon. Its chemical formula is SiC. The only compound of silicon and carbon is silicon carbide (SiC),carborundum. Silicon carbide does occur naturally as the mineral moissanite, but this is extremely rare.
Silicon Carbide (SiC), is brittle and sharp grains, known as Carborundum, is a convetional abrasive containing silicon and carbon. The Silicon Carbide is made from silica sand and petroleum coke in resistant furnace at a range of temperatures, between 1600 °C (2910 °F) and 2500 °C (4530 °F).
