Silicon metal is made by smelting silica and carbonaceous reducing agent in the ore furnace. The content of silicon is about 98%, which is the main component of silicon metal. The remaining impurities are iron, aluminum, calcium and so on. Silicon metal is primarily used as an additive in non-ferrous alloys.
