Ferrosilicon alloys are essential oxygen absorbers in the steelmaking industry. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon alloys are used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation. Brick iron is also used as an alloying agent in steelmaking. It is used as a inoculant and nodularizer in the cast iron industry. In ductile iron production, ferrosilicon alloys are an important inoculant (to help precipitate graphite) and nodularizers. It is used as a reducing agent in the production of ferroalloys. Not only is the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen large, but the carbon content of high ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon alloy (or siliceous alloy) is a commonly used reducing agent in the production of low-carbon ferroalloy in the ferroalloy industry.
